Is there a Geometry Regents curve? ›

The Regents curve, infamously known as the Regents grading curve, functions as a shifting grade scale. So what does this mean for you? Regardless of your raw scores on the Geometry exam, the state educators run your scores against this curve to determine your final score from a scale of 0-100.

The New York State Education Department scales the Geometry Regents exam to a 65 being equivalent to a passing score.

The Geometry Regents test is not considered difficult to pass, although some of the concepts covered in the exam might be difficult, depending on the student. The difficulty level also depends on the score you are attempting to achieve and your reasons for taking the exam.

Theorems include: opposite sides are congruent, opposite angles are congruent, the diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other, and conversely, rectangles are parallelograms with congruent diagonals.

Global History and Geography is the most frequently failed examination. Under the proposal, students would be able to substitute a second Regents Exam in math or science or a vocational exam for this requirement.

Students may earn diploma credit for successfully completing a course but fail to meet the corresponding Regents assessment requirement; or • Students can fail a course and receive no academic credit but fulfill an assessment requirement if they pass a Regents examination in that course.

According to the New York City Department of Education (DOE), “Students graduating with at least a score of 75 on English Regents and 80 on Math Regents” are deemed ready to pursue college and career paths.

How are the Regents Exams scored? The Regents exams are scored on a scale of 0–100, with 65 considered a passing grade. These scores are “curved” based on the results of all students taking the exam in a particular year, meaning the score does not directly reflect a percentage of questions answered correctly.

Based on the January 2020 Algebra 1 Regents exam, students that receive a raw score of between 68 and 86 receive a 5 for their performance level. There are many ways to get to this number. One way would be getting 20 multiple choice questions right, 50% of Part II questions right, and all of Parts III and IV.

Low Score Appeal

You may appeal up to two Regents exams if you get a 60, 61, 62, 63 or 64, and meet the requirements below. This option is available to all students. If you successfully appeal one Regents exam and meet all other testing and course requirements, you will earn a Regents Diploma.

What Regents are hardest to take? ›

The tests are a mix of multiple choice and essay questions. Which is the hardest test? The one people fail most often is Global History because, I think, it's just a lot to memorize. In terms of those higher tests which college-bound kids take, they get harder and harder.

In general, you will need to make up the failed class in order to graduate. You can do this by taking the class again during the summer or next school year, or by completing a credit recovery program.

Format of the NYS Geometry Regents Exam

The Geometry Regents exam contains 35 multiple-choice and open-ended questions. Students have three hours to finish the test, and they must show their work when answering the exam's open-ended questions. Each exam includes a reference sheet that students can use during the test.
