Recipe books built entirely from your collection of scanned recipe cards and clippings include the recipe cards in their original form, rips, stains and all. If you want to turn your family recipe cards into a fresh new cookbook, you can work with our designers on transcribing the recipe cards into text and using the scanned cards and photos as accents. We will standardize the typesetting of all of your recipes from different sources for consistency and professional polish.

Oftentimes family recipes are already contained within a book that’s now too fragile to be referenced in the kitchen. We’ll scan the full pages into a sturdy, revitalized cookbook for the entire extended family to share.

How do I choose the recipes?

It’s tough to choose and organize the best photos and recipes for a family cookbook. Your consultant can help pinpoint the recipe clippings, cards, printouts and pictures you want to scan. Bonus points for shots of your family enjoying these meals! Keep the number and size of your scans in mind, too – one recipe might need two separate scans, and larger page scans will take up more space in your cookbook than recipe cards.

How does the design process work?

Most of our clients start by having us digitize their recipe cards and clippings and any photos they wish to include. You’ll discuss your project needs and goals with your consultant and designer before we begin. We will provide a series of digital drafts for you to review and comment on along the way. What is the difference between a scanned recipe photo book and a typset cookbook?

A recipe book is made up of scanned images of handwritten or typed recipe cards, as well as those favorite clippings and printouts we all have in our collections. With a typeset cookbook, we will format and lay out the typed recipes you’ve submitted for a clean, unified, professional cookbook look. You can include photos in both types of books. Please note that due to of the larger amount of typesetting and proofreading required, typeset projects are more time-consuming to create than scanned recipe books.

What about my videos?

We can digitize those, too. If you’re already sending us photos to scan, it’s a great time to get your VHS tapes and 8mm film reels converted. And since we’re on the subject, Photo Books aren’t your only option for gorgeous custom design projects! Consider avideo montage to blend photo, movies, and music in a unique presentation for a family reunion or get-together.
