Alevras, owner of Restaurant and Pancake House in Palatine, came to the U.S. from his native Greece when he was 15 years old and worked his way up in the restaurant business from dishwasher to manager before starting a restaurant in 1980.

Mr. Alevras was born in Tyros, Greece. His family could not afford to help him continue his education beyond primary school, so Mr. Alevras took a job aboard a cruise ship headed for the U.S. when he was 15, his wife said.

When the ship docked in New York, Mr. Alevras got off and never turned back. He had an aunt and uncle in Chicago but only $24 in his pocket and no idea how to get there, his wife said. Relatives of another Greek youth who also had left the ship gave him a meal and sent him on his way. In Chicago, Mr.

Alevras found work as a dishwasher in a Greek-owned family restaurant. In his spare time, he learned to cook, a job that earned more money. He was a cook at Coffee Shop in Mundelein when he met his wife, Marilyn, a waitress working her way through college. They married in 1978. Mr.

Alevras became a manager at before he and his wife left in 1980 to start the Rainbow Restaurant in Elmhurst with a partner. He got his U.S. citizenship about the same time. was very proud of his wife said. In 1986, with several partners, the couple opened restaurant, offering Greek dishes along with American-style fare.

In the late they sold their share of the restaurant. The partners gradually left and Mr. Alevras and his wife operated the restaurant with Mr. brother, Nick, until assuming full ownership a few years ago. who walked through the door and have money for a meal, say, come in and have something to his wife said.

made sure that everyone he met did. The unofficial historian, he loved spreading history trivia and collecting artifacts, and he eventually became the first curator of the museum. Mr. Watson, 79, of Mundelein, died Tuesday, July 8, of lung cancer in Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Mr.

Watson grew up in Davenport, Iowa; attended Augustana College in Rock Island, and earned a civil engineering degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. After serving in the Navy in Guam during World War II, Mr. Watson began a 40-year career as director of engineering at the Great Lakes basenear North Chicago.He also wrote an occasional column for the bul- letin called you know about the history. Mr. Watson and his wife, Dorothy, spent 10 years collecting pieces of the history for a museumthey opened in 1996.

Mr. Watson is also survived by sistersMary Komidar and Jean Watson. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Burnett- Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Libertyville.
